Board Highlights: May 13, 2024

Brooklyn Center Community Schools’ School Board met for a regular meeting on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 5910 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430. Below are the highlights after the open forum closed. 

 

 Budget Update

  • Kathleen Heider, Assistant Director of Finance, provided a Budget Update.
     

Discussion Items & Presentations

  • Michael Miller, Early College Academy & Insight Online School of Minnesota Principal, presented an update on Insight Online classes, specifically on section sizes and statute language. 

  • Dr. Carly Baker, Superintendent, presented an informational referendum presentation.

  • John Huber, Principal on Special Assignment, provided an update on the continuation of Brooklyn Center Secondary as a Department of Public Health Point of Dispensing (POD) site.

 

Action Items

  • Approval of Resolution Approving Intermediate School District No. 287's Long-term Facility Maintenance Program Budget and Authorizing the Inclusion of a Proportionate Share of Those Projects in the District's Application for Long-term Facility Maintenance Revenue.
  • Approval of First Read Policies
    • Policy 434 (Formerly Policy 308) - Constructive Resolution - Completely revised policy to better create a resolution process with staff
    • Policy 430 - Employee Attendance - Updates based on revised employee time off requirements in legislation
    • Policy 534 - School Meals Policy - New policy for BCCS required from MSBA
    • Policy 422 - Policies Incorporated by Reference with MSBA recommended revisions
  • Approve Delivery Driver MOU
  • Approve Principal Pay and Benefits Guide
  • Approve Administrator Pay and Benefits Guide
