Dear BCCS Families,
Tonight, the school board approved a resolution to hold a one-question referendum election for Tuesday, Nov. 5 that, if approved, would raise approximately $700,000 annually in new education revenue. The focus of the money is to provide funds for school district technology, including updated technology and software licenses as well as support for staff and training. As you know, last fall the district asked voters to consider an increase to our operating levy, which unfortunately did not pass. Honoring the voices of our constituents, we worked hard over the past year to find alternative solutions in support of the needs of our students and community. By asking voters to consider a Capital Projects Levy this fall rather than an operating levy, we would be able to access funds to address our technology needs, which in turn can free up operating dollars for other district expenses, all while keeping the tax impact on district homeowners lower than what was asked for last year.
The district will be offering additional resources and informational sessions to our families and community this fall – please keep an eye out in our district newsletters for more information. As always, if you have any questions you are welcome to contact us at referendum@bccs286.org.
Sincerely,
Dr. Carly Baker, Superintendent
