AVID

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

This course will provide students with intensive preparation for higher education and career pathways  by providing students with the writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills (WICOR) for success in and out of the classroom.  Students at Brooklyn Center Secondary may join AVID beginning in the 7th grade and continuing until graduation.  Students must apply to be in the AVID program.  Applications are accepted year round, however it is preferred that students begin their AVID journey earlier than later.  Students who wish to exit out of the AVID program may be required to meet with their guidance counselor, AVID instructor and parent as this is a program in which students are meant to be enrolled throughout the majority of their 7th-12th grade years.

AVID students have access to career and college counseling, ACT test prep, college and career field trips, mentoring, and community service opportunities.  70% of AVID students were on the A or B honor roll for the first semester of the 2022-23 school year.  100% of AVID seniors graduate and are accepted to institutes of higher learning and career preparation.
